The term "Parakeet" encompases all the species of parakeets, including: Australian parakeets (Rosellas, Polytelis, Neophemas); Australian grass parakeets (Psephotus); Asiatic parakeets (Psittacula); Brotogeris species; and the Lineolated parakeet. These birds are medium-sized. With the exception of the short-tailed Lineolated parakeet, they have long tail feathers. While these birds are generally called "Parakeets," some larger birds may be called "Parrots." The 'Alexandrine parrot' and 'Alexandrine parakeet' is an example of the interchanging of names. In the wild, parakeets live in South America, Australia, Asia, and Africa.
